J. M. BALMACEDA AND ANGLO-CHILEAN RELATIONS IN 1886-1891
The article analyzes the political biography of the Chilean President J. M. Balmaceda (1886–1891), his progressive reforms aimed at the development of the national economy, establishment of the control over the British nitrate companies, the role of the Great Britain in the outbreak of the Civil war of 1891, the sponsoring by the British entrepreneurs of the preparation and organization of the «revolution», the supply of «Revolutionary junta» with money and weapons. Considerable attention is paid to the circumstances of Balmaceda's suicide, his political Testament.
