The Texas problem in the 40s of the XIX century and Great Britain policy DOI: 10.32608/2305-8773-2020-25-1-82-97
In the first decades of the XIX century the United Mexican States independent state pursued a foreign policy for international recognition and maintaining of the territorial integrity of the country. Mexico regarded recognition from the British Empire as a guarantee of its security. Great Britain was also interested in establishing diplomatic relations for the penetration the Latin American market. This article analyzes the main stages in the development of the conflict around Texas on the eve of the Mexican-American War of 1846-1848. The author focuses on the study of the participation of British diplomacy in resolving this conflict. The author describes the key points of the negotiations on the Texas issue and the relationship of Britain with Mexico, Texas and the United States. The article reveals the interests of Great Britain that she pursued by participating in the conflict around Texas.
