Oppositional language of art: catalan culture and left-wing radical movements (1970–1975)
This article examines the oppositional discourse in Catalan culture during the early 1970s, focusing on the ways it was expressed through artistic practices. Catalan artists, musicians, and theater practitioners employed the language of art to circumvent censorship, create an alternative cultural space, and consolidate protest sentiments. Particular attention is given to the Nova Cançó ("New Song") movement, as well as theatrical and visual strategies that contributed to the dissemination of anti-Francoist ideas. The article analyzes the mechanisms of interaction between the artistic and intellectual milieu and left-wing radical movements, including PSUC, MIL, and other organizations. It explores the relationship between political activism and artistic practices, demonstrating how culture became a space of freedom and resistance under the Francoist dictatorship.
