The Place and Role of the Belorussian Soviet Socialist Republic in Soviet-Cuban Relations (1960-1991)
The article examines the features of political, economic and humanitarian relations between the Republic and Cuba in the period of formation and development of Soviet-Cuban relations after their restoration. It was emphasized that these contacts, ties and cooperation developed during the Cold War and the bipolar system, which had a negative impact on their level, primarily on the formation of the political system of Cuba. Therefore, the BSSR, as an integral part of the USSR, could not independently accept and solve the problems of cooperation with Cuba, since all objective assessments of the state of Cuban society published in the press of the Republic were mainly of a propagandistic nature, and Cuba's difficulties were explained only by the aggressive policy of the United States. It is proved that in the period under study, the BSSR, especially until the mid-80s, was one of the main suppliers of machine-building equipment, fertilizers and other goods for a friendly country. A special role was played by the training of top and middle level specialists in the BSSR for the economic development of Cuba. Political cooperation was determined by the visits of F. Castro in 1972, R. Castro in 1976 to Belarus and the visits of P. M. Masherov in 1966 and in 1978 to Cuba. But they contributed to a significant increase in the interest of Belarusians in Cuba, and Cubans in Belarus, which was especially clearly manifested in the post-Soviet period.
