LUIS EMILIO RECABARREN AND THE BIRTH OF CHILEAN SOCIALISM
This article explores the rise of Socialism in Chile in the early 20th century, focusing on the foundation in 1912 of the Partido Obrero Socialista (POS), precursor to Chile's Communist Party, in the nitrate-mining region of Tarapacá. Emphasis is placed on the role of working-class activist Luis Emilio Recabarren, and the POS agenda is illustrated through its diagnosis of the existing social reality, its vision of the Socialist future, and the means proposed to reach that future.
