The article explores the life and work of the famous well-known Cuban political and public figure, historian, liberal educator José Antonio Saco (1797-1879).Saco was a representative of the second phase of the Cuban reformism, of the 19th century, a supporter of the evolutionary path of development of Cuba, devoted all his life to the fight for the liberalization of the Spanish colonial regime, an end to the slave trade, against annexation of Cuba to the United States, for socio-economic transformation of the economy of the island. All his works should reflect the real history of Cuba, inscribed within the world-historical whom process.
