Este artículo examina la participación de las principales empresas editoras de periódicos americanos en la cruzada contra el comunismo. En la primera parte, explora los programas a través de los cuales la Agencia Central de Inteligencia de los Estados Unidos (CIA) diseminó su propaganda con la cooperación de los propietarios de grandes diarios. Presenta, a continuación, a la Sociedad Interamericana de Prensa (SIP) como vértice de la convergencia de la estrategia internacional de los Estados Unidos y las corporaciones mediáticas a las que representaba. Describe a aquella asociación como un cartel patronal que agitó campañas desestabilización contra gobiernos progresistas y antiimperialistas de América Latina. Con el propósito de identificar a los actores y procedimientos del periodismo anticomunista más beligerante, el artículo discierne la labor de dos destacados intelectuales al servicio de la SIP, Jules Dubois y Eudocio Ravines. Estos dos escritores, asumiendo el rol de adalides de la “prensa libre”, prestaron un prolongado servicio en las entrañas de los dispositivos expansionistas de los Estados Unidos.
